Sell Side Feedback

Dealing with covid-19

During the recent months in lockdown, feedback from the sell side research community has reported that research productivity has risen, possibly as much as 25%, with analysts working mainly from home. Client interactions are also higher, with numbers quoted between 5% and 15%; the quality of corporate access has been raised with sell-side teams busy with virtual events, but finding access to executive teams more readily available because of the flexibility offered by online meetings.

Virtual conferences have largely replace physical events, correlating with the possibility that analysts are unlikely to return to the office full time; with sales and trading teams, however, the connectivity requirements dictate that execution teams that have remained split between offices, home and continuity venues, will more likely return to the pre-Covid environment. In general, it is felt that overall travel (mainly international), will decline in the long term.

Asia Research

2020 results

Six months into the coronavirus pandemic, members of the All-Asia Research weigh in on the path forward. Between trade tensions with the U.S. and protests in Hong Kong, last year was tumultuous for Asia. But all of that paled in comparison to the coronavirus that would sweep through the continent — and go on to infect the rest of the world.

Speaker Series

ESG & CORPORATE VALUE

We held our first Speaker Series event in Tokyo online with Most Honored Company CFO Ryohei Yanagi, PhD speaking about ESG and Corporate Value. He is an avid supporter of ESG and the talk was arranged in response to the need to understand more about the breadth and depth of ESG perception from the investor base.  As more and more funds are being scrutinized around their financial stewardship, the topic of ESG is not going away and more and more the Japan corporates are needing to understand it more thoroughly. There were over 79 sign ups and great feedback as being informative and interesting.  Our ultimate goal is to stay in front of the IR departments in between polling, awards dinners and results. The Speaker Series helps to bring the opinions to the forefront of the market through Institutional Investor.
